Logitech G110 or illuminating keyboard?

I'm a student who is looking for a new keyboard, currently I'm on a chicklet style laptop keyboard and it is fairly easy to type fast with. I have a terrible problem when it comes to typing with those 10 dollar keyboards you get from dell. Is the G110 a good keyboard to type with or should I go with the Logitech Illuminating Keyboard? Also I'm taking the G15 into consideration.

but is it easy typing with the g15? the illuminating keyboard seems to have flatter keys, which I like, I'd go for the g15, but the size of the keys are what worry me. Also, I've heard the first gen g15 was better, is that true?

I've got a 1st gen G15 on my i7 and a G110 on my i5 HTPC. I like them both about the same due to their different features. The folding screen on my G15 is wicked handy for some games and when I just wanna keep an eye on my CPU activity. The Old G15 had 18 Gkeys, and not just 12, which isn't really that big of a deal after all. Simply having Gkeys is usually enough for me now that I don't play wow anymore (used all 18 keys for diff macros in wow back in the day...) I also own Logitech's G35 headset which is a USB interface, so the G15's 2 accessory USB sockets work out better vs the G110 which has one USB socket and then two analog 3.5mm jacks for mic in and headphone out... but that could change with a different headset.

Also, the G110 has a crap load of different LED backlight colors you can choose from (shades of red, blue, and purple, or any combination of the three) so my wife actually uses Pink lighting when she's typing... not a huge deal, but I like that she likes it... the 1st gen G15 (don't know about the current ones) only has blue lighting.

As for the typing, The G110 is quieter, but that could be because my G15 is almost two years old now. =)

What ever you do, don't take a G15 apart in order to clean it... it took me near two days to put the damned thing back together due to all the different cables and LEDs.

I'm leaning more towards the G110 but I read on Newegg that it was terrible to type with, is this true? Thats all I really want to know (the changing colors are just a bonus :) The nearest BestBuy doesn't have the G110 on display so I can't go and try it out there unfortunately.

I don't have a personal experience with the G110.. I do have the G15 rev. 2 with me.. The keys are nice and soft and have a very good feedback.. But its for me who is more of a gamer and less of a typist.. My initial impression is that all the G series keyboards have the same build up.. The pricing differs by features i guess.. If you desire for a more typing friendly keyboard then give a look to the Logitech Wave..

I would have to agree with the post above me, they most likely started with a very similar typing feel, but with my G15 being older, the G110 feels softer to me. I have also used the Logitech Wave Pro at my old work, and typing wise, yeah, its a shorter keystroke, and maybe a bit quieter, but I wouldn't use it for gaming.

I am presently testing out the logitech G110 and then Microsoft Sidewinder X4 mostly for feel of the keys and general typing work (Word documents). I play the occassional games but wanted a illuminated key board when working in dimmed lighting, besides LEDs are cool.

The G110 cost about 50% more than the X4. The illumination on the G110 is bright as the X4's dim setting, and I haven't figured out if you can increase the G110 back lighting (have submitted an email to logitech support). I have been to G110 sites searching for an answer with no luck. The blue is not very bright and prefer the red anyways.

The main factors that I am considering is:
The G110 has satin finsih; keys feel firmer, solid and quieter ; 3 colors albeit not very bright ; is this worth $25+ more.
The unpowered USB, built in sound card and audio connections are not important for me.

The X4, light is brighter which is what I wanted in an illuminated keyboard. The palm rest is built in and not removable but the ergonomics for the wrist are correct. The function keys are half height but does not seem to present a problem. All the keys are full lit up, whereas on the G110 some of the keys, the top sections are not fully lit due to some design feature.

I find typing (finger memory) on both keyboards are not a problem. Decision: more features that would probably not use; or more $ for other toys.
